What are we doing?

In a Fraunhofer Alliance, specialists from different Fraunhofer institutes are organized into teams that combine their single competences into a common, integrative area of business.

Members of the Adaptronics Alliance are the Fraunhofer Institutes:

In the Adaptronics Alliance the competences of these 6 Fraunhofer institutes, which lie in the areas of development, application and optimization of intelligent material systems and components, systems and applications are combined. Through this cooperation the institutes want to make a substantial contribution towards efficiently solving complex tasks in the field of adaptronics and towards offering the user a common, central contact person for his system development. As a result of the participation of the institutes in other groups of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft an active exchange of information is guaranteed.

By bringing together single competences the Adaptronics Alliance wants to offer R&D services in the industrial and scientific field within the relevant fields of adaptronics, both individually in the technical disciplines as well as networked along the development and value enhancement chain.

Furthermore, the alliance aims at the assessment of demand and coordinated planning of the research activities as well as the development of suitable technological and conceptual solutions with the goal to transfer structure technology into commercial applications.

Special value is placed on the following topic areas:

intelligent material systems: development and optimization of the coupled mechanical, electrical, magnetic, thermal, optical, etc. function characteristics
adaptive system components: development and optimization particularly of electronic (signal processing, power electronics, control engineering) and software-technical components with consideration of the system costs
design and production: optimization of the methods, procedures and tools for component and system design, system realization and operation while using numeric and experimental simulation techniques at optimal costs
system operation and reliability: derivation of the influences of material systems, design, production, operating stresses and environmental impacts on durability, life span and reliability of parts and systems through validated, realistic operating and stress simulation
